UK car sales rise to a new all-time high
Car sales rose to a record high of 7.5 million in November, a year ahead of target, according to the latest data from the ONS.
The figure was above the 7.4 million set in October, and above forecasts of 6.9 million.
Sales of new vehicles were up 10.3 per cent on a year ago, with the average selling price of a new car rising 1.6 per cent to £30,000.
New car sales are expected to continue to rise through to the end of the year.
Despite the improvement, the ONs forecast for new car sales this year is not enough to keep pace with the increase in vehicle sales, the highest level since January 2018.
Overall, the annual increase in car sales was 1.7 per cent, while new vehicle sales fell 0.7% to 1.2 million.
