Tesla sales rise to new record as battery deal with Ford raises sales for the automaker
New York, March 30 (UPI) Tesla Motors Inc. has announced a major deal with the Ford Motor Co. to supply batteries for the company’s Model S sedan and other electric cars.
The agreement will bring Tesla sales to more than 50,000 vehicles, according to a Tesla spokesperson.
The new batteries will be used in the Tesla Model X crossover SUV, which will be available in 2018.
Tesla is the only automaker to make a battery for its electric cars, and the company plans to build and sell batteries for other vehicles as well.
The agreement is expected to raise Tesla’s total sales to around 100,000 units.
Tesla also announced last week that it has secured a $7.2 billion deal with China’s BYD Group for a battery factory.
